Filming of Tip to Tip.

All,

I would like to produce a 'Paramotor Club' Tip to Tip DVD. Although we are being filmed by the BBC for news and sports slots throught the UK we need our own 'Filmer'

This is a big WANTED for a 'filmer' to spend time in the air on a Tandem Paramotor (no need to be a Pilot!!) and time with the advance ground crew to film landings e.t.c

This is a great chance for a non pilot to get a good taste of Paramotoring in return for some great footage.

You will be expected to attend training days and planning meetings, to take as much footage as possible for later editing.

Have you looked into using bullet cameras mounted on your helmets feeding something like an Arcos recorder. They can capture hours of footage easily and the set up is reasonably cheap and very lightweight. Some of the gyro boys use them quite a lot. Your only problem is the time it takes to edit all the footage.

Obviously not a primary source of film content but pilots eye content will add a nice touch.

I always find the pilots eye view makes me feel sea sick.

If the pilots are going to film a particular view in this way a very steady head is needed if only for a short period.

I was given a DVD last week which shows the DHV testing regime on Nova wings (it's more about the testing than Nova) and even the free flight guys soaring with the camera attached to their harness were achieving a wobbly shot at best. When they were doing tests by collapsing part of the wing, the view becomes very disorientating.

Head cam shots and the like always make for interesting "bits" on a program.

aThe general plan is to film everything..... (not just head cam.... making use of a top secret idea that Colin and I had one day...) and then get someone who is good at it to edit the footage afterwards...

All of the editing people say... "just film everything, always."

I agree though that the head cams do tend to create a bit of a Blair Witch effect on the viewer..

NB the pilot's helmet is not the only place to mount bullet cams. Up in the rigging by the wing is a very steady place (on a reflex wing .....so I'm told)
